Bezos’ resignation as CEO of Amazon after 27 years not only means the end of an era for Amazon, a firm he transformed from a mere online bookstore into one of the most innovative, powerful and ubiquitous companies globally.
That act is also the most visible symbol of a profound changing of the guard after esteemed leadership that saw a rise in generation of charismatic leaders. He is an example of those founders that have left their companies in the hands of trusted deputies who are known as expert tactical operators but not necessarily visionaries.
Such deputies have also faced a number of challenges in the form of regulatory scrutiny emanating from their visionary boss’ style.
With Bezos pursuing other “passions”, Facebook will remain to be the only organization in the elite circle of world giants that rose to prominence.

“For Larry and Sergey, they looked to the next ten years and they knew what was happening next. You felt they were bored. “But for Zuckerberg, there are so many problems and questions, you don’t know what is happening next. You’d probably want to hang around.” He added.
