Local authorities have reported that Professional golfer Tiger Woods has been involved in a car crash in Los Angeles.
A tweet from the Los Angeles County’s Sheriff’s Department revealed that Woods was injured in the wreck of the car which “sustained major damage.”
Firefighters and Paramedics had to remove Woods from the car using the “jaws of life”.
The PGA golfer has been transported to a local hospital for his injuries, the LACSD posted.
Woods’ manager Mark Steinberg told Golf Digest the star athlete had suffered multiple leg injuries in the crash and is undergoing surgery.
“He is currently in surgery,” Steinberg said, “and we thank you for your privacy and support.”
LA County Fire earlier reported that Woods’ injuries were “moderate to critical”.
With the Masters just six-plus weeks away, Woods said on Sunday that he wasn’t certain he would be ready to play in the event, the year’s first major championship, after undergoing a fifth back surgery in December.
A KABC-TV helicopter over the scene of Woods’ accident showed a car on its side with the front end heavily damaged. Air bags appeared to be deployed. The wreckage appeared to be just off the side of a road on a hillside.
Woods, whose first name is Eldrick, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, the sheriff’s department said.
