Homa Bay residents were on Saturday treated to drama after police officers arrested a middle aged man who was found licking blood from the dead body of a female at the Homa Bay Referral Hospital mortuary.
The 22 year old man identified as Onyango was busted feeding on the blood of an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teacher based at Gul Kagembe.
Sonko News has so far established that the woman was killed by unknown people who shot her when she was washing plates at her Rangwe house on June 15.
It is said that Onyango had gone to the mortuary to see one of the dead bodies who was a man. Having arrived, he exchanged some words with the mortuary attendant who later allowed him to see his victim having registered his details at the reception.
Apparently, Onango saw the dead body of the male and after finishing, he spotted the body of this female teacher on his way out. It is at that point when he knelt and licked the blood from her body.
This incident has shocked many people since such a behavior in the Luo community is perceived as a way of preventing the dead from haunting you especially if you were involved in their murder. One wiseman from Siaya county calling himself Kwach Podpek in Facebook had this to say on the incident:
“Kujeni hapa i educate you according to the Luo culture. Normally when you kill or murder someone, the best way to avoid being haunted by them is licking and swallowing their blood(they argue that the blood makes them part of you and they cannot definitively haunt themselves).” Said Kwach PodPek.
“And from the story, the woman was killed by unknown people now you know who killed her.The man licked the blood to avoid being haunted having participated in her murder!!! Luos from Siaya mnajifanya hamjui hi kitu ama huwa hamkai na wazee?” Added Kwach.
In the meantime, Homa Bay DCI boss Monica Berege confirmed they were already questioning the man on the same in a bid to unravel if he was involved in that brutakl murder.
“It is very important that we find out whether Onyango was involved in the murder of the teacher. This can assist in knowing what is the link between his actions and her death,” she said.
