Police boss has been thrown into mourning after her daughter was sandwiched by two matatus and crashed to death in Nairobi CBD.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua is the top boss in mourning whose daughter, Nelly Waithera, 25, was sandwiched by two matatus along Murang’a Lane, Nairobi.
The deadly incident happened when she was crossing from Tom Mboya Street on Thursday at 8 am.

According to reports obtained from the witnesses, one matatu which was reversing crushed her against another one that was stationary, badly injuring her head.
“The driver was reversing along Murang’a Lane and at the junction of Tom Mboya Street, he sandwiched the pedestrian against another matatu,” One witness told The Star.
Waithera sustained serious head injuries and was rushed, by ambulance, to Kenyatta National Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
The body was moved to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital mortuary, pending a postmortem.
Both vehicles were detained at Central Police Station awaiting inspection. The drivers of the vehicles were questioned and released.
Police said the case is being handled.
Kenyans online have consoled with the police boss for his loss with some narrating similar accidents they have witnessed.
“Lol . comfort to the family..many years I witnessed similar incidence at KNH stage by two KBS bus.. medical student lady was alighting.. immediately the other bus came crushing her against the the door..was horrible,” one Twitter user wrote.
While others have refused to be sorry saying that the police have always failed to root out rogues in the matatu industry.
“I won’t be sorry about this…. They (police) supervise as matutus misbehave… Remember just a week ago there’s a family that was calling for justice…now the matatu doesn’t know the children of police… It’s going to eat them,” another Twitter user commented.
