The deadline for filing tax returned ends on June 30th, 2021, and anybody who misses the June deadline will lose their KRA pin.
Part of the statement on the KRA Website read, “Failure to file returns, unless a cause is shown to the contrary, the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes shall have their personal identification numbers (PINs) de-registered and canceled from the KRA system.”
With this warning, it is clear that KRA will continue to tighten the ropes to meet their target and possibly surpass as they did in January 2021.
According to the record from KRA Website, an estimated 62 727 pins are listed for de-registration.
An estimated 7107 accounts compromising of self-help groups, companies, and schools are likely to suffer cancellation.
Kenyan budget expands in every financial year; this trend has pushed the tax master to find better ways of encouraging more people, companies, schools, NGO’s Self Help Groups to file their returns.
Today, you will find in some places KRA tends; this is part of the process to educate and assist individuals and businesses and bring solutions.
They have brought their services closer to the taxpayers.
In a statement from their website, KRA stated, “Taxpayers are also encouraged to take advantage of the Voluntary Tax Disclosure Program and apply, disclose and pay their outstanding liability with a relief on interest and penalties.”
Losing your KRA pin is something you cannot afford. Why am I saying this?
First, you need your KRA to open any bank account in Kenya today, and since your KRA pin is linked to your identification number, you will have nowhere to escape.
The second and third point is the issue of land registration and job application. Without your KRA pin, you will not be able to enjoy these two services and maybe many more, which we are yet to identify.
