“I’d rather not speculate out loud. I just think that there is no need for him [Trump] to have the the intelligence briefings. What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?” Biden said during an interview with CBS when asked what he feared could happen if Trump continued to receive the briefings.

Trump didn’t fully or regularly read the President’s Daily Brief – the highly classified summary of the nation’s secrets, during his tenure in office. The retired president was instead orally briefed two or three times a week by his intelligence officials.

Retired president are usually afforded with classified intelligence briefing as it has been the tradition for years.

There are fears that Trump might be unusually vulnerable to bad actors with ill intent if he receives classified intelligence briefing now that he is no longer president.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Saturday February 6th that Biden trusted the intelligence team on how to determine which information they would give Trump if he asked for briefing.

“The President was expressing his concern about former president Trump receiving access to sensitive intelligence, but he also has deep trust in his own intelligence team to make a determination about how to provide intelligence information if at any point the former President Trump requests a briefing,” said Psaki.

Adding that;

“The intelligence community supports requests for intelligence briefings by former presidents and will review any incoming requests, as they always have.”
